Temporary Cook – Kitoi Bay Hatchery

Applications accepted through August 15th, 2017.Kodiak Regional Aquaculture Association has a full time, temporary cook position available at Kitoi Bay Hatchery for the 2017 eggtake season. This position is from August 28th through September 28th, but may extend into October depending on circumstances. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled. Kitoi Bay Hatchery is a large and diverse Pacific salmon production facility (215 million pink, 36 million chum, 2.3 million coho and 850,000 sockeye salmon eggs) located on Afognak Island. This is a remote site approximately 25 miles north of the city of Kodiak, accessible only by floatplane or boat.

DUTIES: The cook is responsible for providing two full meals (Lunch and Dinner) plus a mid-day or evening snack, dependent on work schedules. Meals and snacks are to accommodate up to 22 people. Snacks will be delivered to employees working at the eggtake production line. The cook will be in charge of meal planning, ordering weekly groceries, clean up, and support. Cook must be able to accommodate food allergies or common dietary restrictions. The hatchery manager will provide cook with serving times at least 3 days in advance to allow for preparation and scheduling. Must be able to plan and order for meals one full week ahead of schedule, as there is only one freight plane per week.

QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must be dependable with cooking experience. Must have or be able to obtain State of Alaska Food Service Certificate for knowledge of food preparation, health codes, and required sanitary conditions. Working hours for all employees are dictated by tidal status; the cook will be required to work non-traditional hours. Must be able to cohesively live and work in a remote facility and environment.

WAGE/BENEFITS: This position is a full time, one month position. Room and board provided. The cook will reside in a dorm-type bunkhouse with communal kitchen and living areas. Amenities include regular mail/freight service, phone, internet, satellite TV, and exceptional outdoor recreational opportunities in the Kitoi Bay area.

SALARY: $12.50 to $16.00 per hour, DOE.
