Fish Technican I – Pillar Creek Hatchery

Kodiak Regional Aquaculture Association has two (2) or more seasonal positions available at Pillar Creek Hatchery for 2020. These entry level positions are for different durations from April to October, season dependent. Applications will be accepted until all positions are filled. Pillar Creek Hatchery is a diverse Pacific salmon production facility (2.0-5.0 million sockeye salmon, 350,000 Chinook salmon, 100-200,000 coho salmon and 92,000 Rainbow trout) located on Kodiak Island. This hatchery site is approximately 6 miles north of the city of Kodiak, accessible by road.

DUTIESDuties include a variety of salmon hatchery tasks relating to freshwater rearing of fry and smolt, juvenile transfers, incubation and egg care, adult handling and egg collection, and general facility upkeep. These positions could also include field work for up to six weeks. Field camps are for spring smolt fish feeding camps, adult brood collection and egg collection activities. These field camps provide great outdoors and fishing opportunities during non-work hours.

QUALIFICATIONS: Education and/or experience in fisheries, biology or related field would be preferred but is not mandatory.  Employees must be physically fit, hands-on labor, capable of lifting and carrying 50 pounds for distances of up to 50 yards. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions, work cooperatively in groups, or individually with little supervision.

WAGE/BENEFITSThis position is a full time 5 to 6 month position, depending on season. Housing is provided at the hatchery, but not board, for in-town hatchery work. Room and Board provided for off- site remote camp work.

 

Salary: $14.00 to $15.15 per hour, DOE.
